Cake Smash Photography is a popular trend to celebrate your child’s first and/or second birthday milestone. Some people like it, some people don’t. I enjoy cake smash photography. Children love messy play and cakes are a symbol of celebration. Why not combine the two and create art? Taylor loved smashing up her cake for her first birthday.

I’ve had the opportunity of watching Taylor’s first year milestones – from when Mum was pregnant with Taylor. Through to Taylor’s newborn shoot, then 6 month shoot and then her cake smash on her first birthday. I love watching how baby’s change over the year. They grow so much. Their features change, their physical abilities change and the family dynamics change. It’s just amazing to see so much positive growth and so much love grow in the family.

I always start Cake Smash Photo Shoots with some of the baby on their own and some family images. This documents and treasures this special time, before the mess commences. Then we get to the cake smash. Baby’s are never allowed to eat that much cake and I don’t encourage it. But allowing them to have messy play and to enjoy the celebrations, is very cute. They have so much fun and there is always lots of giggles and laughter from everyone. Taylor’s older sister, Lily, joined in with the cake smash towards the end. Probably more to have a taste of the cake, but she had fun too.
