Frequently Asked Questions

What if my dog doesn't listen to commands, or is nervous, excitable or reactive?

For many dog owners, this is a completely normal, and understandable, worry.

You would love some beautiful, professional photos of your furry friend, but just not sure how they will react.

You might be wondering…
What if my dog is nervous? What if they’re reactive, excitable, shy, or just don’t sit still?

I can assure, you are not alone. My baby and family clients wonder the same thing about their children!

There is no right or wrong behaviour, your dog’s personality, is their personality and I will work confidently and calmly with your pet.

I always go at your dog’s pace, so if they need a quick run around, drink of water or cuddle, then we take a break.

And we can choose a location that both you and your dog are comfortable with.

For dogs who are wary of strangers, I take time to build trust gently and respectfully. I don’t rush introductions. I allow space. I let them observe me and their surroundings first.

If we’re in the studio, I’ll leave them to have a sniff around, while I make you a cup of tea or coffee.

If we’re at an outdoor location, we’ll walk along and chat, while your dog runs around and gets a ‘feel’ of their surroundings and realises that I’m their friend too.

Often, the most beautiful images happen once they realise there’s no pressure — just patience and kindness.

I work with both puppies and senior dogs.

Puppies are full of bounce and energy, so I’d probably confine them to the studio, especially if they haven’t had their vaccinations yet.

Senior dogs may need to go at a very slow pace, they may need you close by for reassurance that their person is there and I’ll make sure that they feel comfortable and safe.

Absolutely!  Your dog is part of your family, so why not have a family photo together!

We have a two alternative options here:-

  • We can move the photo shoot to my studio
  • We can postpone until another day

Not at all.  I work with all breeds and all personalities.

Once we’ve got your photo shoot date booked in,  I’ll send you some information on how to prepare, what to expect and what to wear for your photo shoot.  Nothing complicated, just a few tips and ideas.

Absolutely! I have a client that brings 4 of her own dogs, and usually 1 or 2 foster dogs, along to her photo shoots.

Is it chaos?  Absolutely it is to begin with, but I suspect you know this to begin with, especially if they can be chaos at home 😉
